Pano Kastro
This castle complex that can be observed from approximately 20 km from the island capital comes from the 13th century and it is also called the Castle of the Old Lady. In fact it is wrapped in many legends, probably because there are not many written records on his past that have been preserved. In the Middle Ages, this place enjoyed great significance since it was protecting the town against invaders’ raids. The legend talks about an unfortunate woman who opened the fortress to the ennemies who raided the place, and slaughtered all the living souls. When the woman saw the result of her acting, she threw herself headlong into the sea from a close rock that was named as The Old Woman´s Leap in her memory.
