Panachrantou
Thanks to its position on the hilltop from which the visitor´s eye can see to the remote surroundings, the Panachrantou Monastery is the destination not only of those who are interested in the rich religious history of Andros Island, or, more precisely, the whole Greece, but mainly the tourists and hikers who like to revel in the beautiful view of the landscape. In the monastery built about one thousand years ago by a Byzantine emperor, there are only few monks living there who run the monastery.
The Panachrantou Monastery is located only 12 km south-west from the island capital, and you can climb up there using the little paths from Mesaria village or right from the capital of Chora. The believers will be pleased by the rare relics wrapped in many legends from the life of the saints. The museum is open daily.
