The Roman forum (Romaiki Agora) can be found in the Thessaloniki above a large park stretching from the north of the Aristotle Square. This centre of public and religious life of the ancient Thessaloniki started to be built towards the end of the 2nd century AD in the place of the today’s market. Around the paved rectangular square, a complex of administrative buildings and shops was built, separated from the inner space of the square with a colonnade of Corinthian columns on three sides. In the eastern part, there was a theatre (odeon) from which the brick stage and rows of seats have been preserved,

The locality was discovered in the 1960s during the construction of a new court building, and in 1969, it was included in the list of archaeological sites. The archaeological works still continue in the place,  and the possibility of making the place completely accessible to the public and involved in Thessaloniki’s cultural life is considered after the works are finished - e.g. there would be theatre performances held in odeon, various exhibitions organized in the place of the former collonade, etc.
