Since its foundation in the 1980s, the Byzantine Museum is located in the island capital, being a prt of the Mecidige mosque. It can be accessed the best walking from the main square. The exhibition includes artifacts of great historic value from the Byzantine era as well as the previous and subsequent eras. They are mainly statues, richly painted icons, graphics, art objects made of marble, ceramics, wood carvings, grave ledger and grave stones, fabrics and weapons. The museum is open daily except Monday and it can be accessed for a fee (there is a discount for children and students).
