The Byzantine Basilica of Paleopolis of which only remains have been preserved till nowadays was built in the 5th century as one of the biggest basilicas in Greece of that time. Originally it had five aisles, rebuilt into a basilica of three aisles after it was burned down. Yet it didn´t escape its destiny and was destroyed once again. Then a new basilica was built with only one nave. You can still see there the remains of paintings and frescoes on the walls.
