Afionas village
The picturesque and peaceful village with only about 300 permanent inhabitants is situated on the north-west coast of Corfu, and it the village located ath the highest altitude on this green island. From the places where you can feast your eyes on the charming bay of Agios Georgios, the beaches in Arillas as well as the islands of Kravia, Sikia, Gineka, Diaponitia, Mathraki, Othoni and Erikoussa, once served to keep the island safe and warn about the pirate attacks using lighthouses.
Tourist background and places of interest
In the village with a friendly atmosphere, you will find a few tavernas, a bakery and a little church. The renowned fish taverna of Dionysos with a splendid view on the bay offers fish specialities but also other traditional Greek dishes, being frequently sought-after by the locals but also the tourists. The taverna can be found on a hill (it is the edifice which is placed the highest in Afionas).
Beaches
Close to the taverna of Dionyssos, there is a path on which you can get to the most amazing beaches on the island after an about 20 minutes walk. The secluded tiny beaches with sand and pebbles offer total privacy and bathing in their crystal clear water is very refreshing.
