Afendis Stavromenos
Afendis Stavromenos (1476 m) is the highest peak of the Thriptis mountains located about 15 km north-east of Ierapetra. To the peak, you can get on a footpath from Tripti but also on a very broken and quite dangerous road on which you can get from the road connecting the villages of Orino and Tripri. On the peak there is a chapel and a glass edifice open for the public. It consists of one nig room equipped with a table and benches and there is a terrace under it with a beautiful view on the south coast (you can see Ierapetra and the Liyban Sea from there). In the north, there is a splendid view on Agios Nikolaas and the Sea of Crete, while in the west, the peaks of the Psiloritis mountains show up.
