Asklepion Archaeological Site
One of the most significant archaeological sites of Kos and the Dodecanese can be found about 4 km west of the island capital. Its name is Asklepion and it originally served as a hospital. It is dedicated to Asclepio, the parton of health and medicine. Even Hippocrates himself is said to have been working there. In the place, you can see beautiful decorated ancient columns, stone foundations of the edifices, perimeter walls, floor mosaics, a genuine fountain with spring water (something completely unusual on Kos), and many fragments of architecture pertaining to the then buildings. The research of the site was initiaited more than one hundred years ago, discovering rare specimens giving evidence of the high degree of developement of the island inhabitants in the ancient times.

Asklepion jsem navštívila v srpnu, při dovolené v Kefalosu. Z hlavního města jsme vyjely vláčkem a prohlédly si památku. Areál je rozlehlý a všude na nás dýchala historie. Moc se mi návštěva líbila.
