The religious building of the chapel and monastery, Agios Ioannis Theologos, is located approx. 2 km south-east of the capital of Kythira, near the settlements of Engremno and Kapsali. It was built on a steep slope of a huge rock in the 16th century, and it is an example of the advanced architecture of that time, especially in such a difficult to access terrain. Therefore it is a bit more difficult to clib to this sacred place, but you will be rewarded with a beautiful view on the surrounding landscape. The sanctuary is dedicated to St. John the Baptist, who is said to have dwelled in the places, dedicating himself to his writings.
