Archaeological museum
The Archaeological museum with its small but valuable collection can be visited in the capital of Kythira. The lovers of history will find there exhibits covering all the long history of the island. Some of the oldest objects include vases, statues and more ceramic articles from the Bronze Age, followed by coins that represent each the different eras the island was passing through. From the more recent era, you can find there tombs commemorating the British occupation of the island.
The collection was initiated in the 1930s by a local teacher, yet it was completed and opened for the public only 30 years later. Today you can see it daily except Mondays and holidays.
