Church of Panagia Paraportiani
The snow-white edifice of the Church of Panagia Paraportiani can be ssen in the capital of Mykonos. It was originally a part of the town fortification and the castle of Kastro. The church is a unique building from the architectural point of view consisting of four independent churches attached one to another with walls and providing support for the fifth one built on their tips. The sanctuary was built on the 15th century and belongs to the wirdest and at the same time most significant constructions not only on the island but also in the whole Greece. Its name is derived from the word ´porta´, meaning a ´gate´, since it actually used to stand close to a gate to the very castle of Kastro.
