The very strange construction of the Faneromeni Monastery is located in a place called Engares (or also Egares or Eggares), which is a village onthe north-western coast of Naxos island about 6 km from the capital. The monastery is said to be built in the 14th century, and it will catch your attention mainly with its huge formless construction of a cube, with almost no windows, only an unobtrusive bell tower on its top.
