The Church of Panagia Drossiani
The weird, almost mystical building of the Church of Panagia Drossiani is situated near the village of Moni, close to the very centre of Naxos Island. It is not only one of the oldest Naxos monuments, but with its well-preserved state and the age of approx. 1 500 years also one of the oldest buildings in Europe. Despite its respectable age, it still serves religious purposes for the public. Above the entrance, there stretches a vault bell tower with one bell and a small cross. Inside you can see rare wall mural paintings, besides the church there are graves with snow-white crosses, and from the sanctuary walls, there is a beautiful view on the vast surroundings.
