Platamon Castle
The ruins of the Platamon Castle surrounded by strong defence walls can be found a little less than 10 km from the resort of Nei Pori. The castle was built in the 10th century but the fortress was apparently built in the place of another ancient fortification of which the remains were found. During the subsequent centuries, the edifice was rebuilt several times and then completely destroyed during the World War II with bombs dropped on it.
In the area, you can see a church with a cemetery from the 10th century bearing signs of rebuilding and restoration from different eras, another church from the 18th century, historical houses of the aristocracy from the 18th and 19th century, lofty defence walls, and some fragments of architecture.
With its position, the castle offers a magnificent view on the landscape. It is open daily and can be accessed for a small fee.
