Rhodes Old Town
The heart of Rhodes is the unique Old Town, where you can live days and nights suffused with a romantic atmosphere, being surrounded by ancient architecture, all that completed by many peculiar little cafés and Greek tavernas but also shops offering typical Greek hand-made products and beverages.
The Old Town is a mosaic of ancient, Byzantine, medieval and Ottoman historical sites and monuments, with the most significant edifice being Collachium taking up all its northern part, while the Grand Master Palace is the main landmark of the north-west part of the town. Another famous site is the Street of the Knights that used to be the main religious and political centre of the island. Nearby you will also find the Mosque of Suleiman. There is a beautiful view on the town from the Clock Tower.
The impressive building of the Grand Master Palace was constructed in the place of the ancient Byzantine fortress from the 7th century. Under the Turkish rule, it was abandoned, and then completely destroyed by an explosion in 1856; restored by the Italians between 1937 and 1940. At present, the palace serves as an archaeological museum, offering a lively image of the island history from Antiquity till the Middle Ages. Many of its halls are decorated with early Christian mosaics, ancient statues, furniture and antiques.

Nádherné jsou pohledy do vnitobloků domů, kde jsou zahrady.
