Monastery of Megali Panagia

The Monastery of Megali Panagia is said to be one of the most beautiful religious sites on Samos. You will find it in the central part of the island on the slopes of the Ampelos mountains near the village of Koumaradei. It is a truly charming edifice which is completely open for the public (and for free). it was built in the 16th century but thanks to different restorations, it has been preserved till nowadays and is very well kept. Inside you can get to know the life of the local monks, see the chapel with religious paintings and carved icons, and buy a souvenir in the local shop.
