The partially preserved castle in the village of Pyrgos lies in the very heart of Santorini, and in its heyday, it used to be the administrative centre of the island (i.e. before Fira became the capital). The castle complex includes several churches: the Church of St. Theodora, the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, and Eisodion. In the castle courtyard, there is a memorial plaque of the war period of the first half of the 20th century. Besides that, you can find there icons, woodcarvings and statues.
