The small island of volcanic origin, Nea Kameni, Palea Kameni, Thirassia and Aspronisi are located near the Kaldera from where there is a very nice view on all of them. To visit the islands, there are boat trips being organized which you can buy at some of the local travel agencies anywhere on the island.

The youngest of the island is Nea Kameni which emerged due to volcanic activity only in 1573 and it is still an active volcano. It is formed by black lava massif on which resistant green vegetation grows little by little. There is a beaten path leading to the crater on the top (the lava is quite sharp so you need good shoes). Only a few centimetres under the surface, the rock temperature gets much higher (you can see that yourself if you remove a small part of the soil with your hand).
