The medieval settlement from the 12th century, Kastro, that used to be one of the most significant ones on the whole Skiathos, can be found in the north of the island. It was built on a rock from where it was possible to watch the surrounding sea and the possible threats like raiders and pirates. In the ruins of the castle, you can still recognize a chapel, a church, several houses and the remains of the defence walls, Turkish baths and of a drawbridge, as well as parts of defence guns and cannons. Thanks to the position of the castle on a high rock, there is a beautiful view on the surroundings with the beache, the boats and the wide seas.
