The monastery of Capuchin monks dedicated to St. John comes from the 17th century and it can be found in the pictureque village of Ano Syros near another important Jesuit monastery. In the past it had a great education, social and cultural significance for the whole region, as the local monks were providing many different services for the inhabitants in the fields of health care, law, and teaching. The monastery premises include the Church of Agios Ioannis with spaces in the underground originally used as cases for skeletal remains and pirate shelters.
