Ipsarion, the highest peak
With its 1206 a.s.l., Mount Ipsarion is the highest peak on Thassos. The island interior is very indented and it still has a rather wild character untouched by tourism. The slopes are covered with blooming and sweet-smelling flowers, with pine groves here and there. The paths are fringed by beehives. The best way to get to the mountain is to walk from the resort of Skala Potamias. Travelling by car is quite demanding ans it is better to rent an of-road vehicle. There is a tarmac road up to the Maries village, continuing as a gravel path. Although compared to other paths in the island interior, this way is not by far the worst, it is not passable with a common vehicle. On your way to Ipsarion, you can stop at a charming lake.
