Despite being hit by earthquakes and other disasters, the Monastery of Koronato can be found by all the lovers of the varied Cephalonian history only a few kilometres away from Lixouri in the south-east of the north-western peninsula. The monastery comes from the 15th century and there is a legend on a herdsman and one found, lost and then rediscovered icon of the Virgin Mary related to it. It was this very event that is called a miracle by the locals and that served as an inspiration to restore the sanctuary several times.
