Agios Georgios Fortress
A little less than 5 km from the island capital of Argostoli near the village of Kastro, you will find the remains of the Saint George Castle - Agios Georgios. This Venetian castle from the 12th century located at the height of 300 m a.s.l. once used to be the capital and the landmark of the whole south Cephalonia. Only the exterior walls, i.e. the ramparts have been preserved till nowadays, built in 1504. In the castle premises, there was also a cathedral. The castle was damaged the most by an earthquake in 1636 and the one in 1937. The last and most devastating earthquake in 1953 demolished the castle as well as many other edifices on the island and the castle went rack and ruin. Despite that, it is an interesting target of trips on which you can explore the vast area and savour the amazing view on the whole surroundings, including Argostoli.

doporučuji návštěvu ráno, my tam byli cca v 8:30 hodin sami, stojí to za to prolézt si hrad bez ostatních návštěvníků, nádherný výhled široko do kraje
