This male monastery built in 1225 rises on a green cliff above the tourist resort of Paleokastritsa. Its construction was initiated after the image of the Virgin Mary was seen in the place. In the monastery premises, you will also find the Church of Zoodochu Pigis. The monastery was rebuilt in the 18th century, so it doesn´t have its current appearance any more. You can see there an interesting bell tower or visit a museum where you will find mostly art and religious objects, Byzantine icons, pictures, monastic robes, but also bones of a whale or tools used for wine and olive oil production. From the gardens, there is a beautiful view of the bay and the sea. Under the monastery you can park your car for free and there are refreshment facilities, too.
