The Monastery of Vlacherna is one of the most significant tourist attractions on Corfu. It is located on the coast of the Kanoni peninsula on the east coast of the island near the capital of Kerkyra. Together with the Mouse Island, it creates the famous image that appears on many postcards and souvenirs. The monastery is unique for being built on a little island, occupying most of its territory. You can even get there by dry land as it is connected with the mainland through a wharf. The female Monastery of Vlacherna built in the 17th century is open for the public. In its premises, you can visit a chapel or buy a souvenir inthe souvenir shop.
