Kanoni
Kanoni Resort
Kanoni is a place wrapped in legends about Odysseus and his adventurous expeditions; yet the peninsula is also a destination of many tourists arriving at the resort for one of the most famous tourist attractions on Corfu - the Mouse Island (Pontikonissi). Kanoni is located about 4 km south of the capital of Kerkyra and it can be found on the very tip of a small peninsula.
Kanoni offers a really charming view on the Mouse Island. According to a legend, the little island is in fact a petrified ship, and it can be accessed only by boat as well. On the Mouse Island, there is a chapel from the 13th century hidden among the mass of green vegetation. Another unique historical site is the Vlacherna Monastery locatedon a little island where you can walk on a wharf. The moanstery occupies all the area of the island. Yet in Kanoni surroundings, there are also many other places to see, like the Paleopolis Basilica (the oldest church on Corfu), the summer residence of the former British High Commissioner Mon Repos, the church of the two saints who brought Christianity to the island, the remains of the Temple of Artemis, and many others. Besides that, there are also natural places of interest to visit. One of them is e.g. the Kardaki Spring - according to a legend, the one who drinks from it will always be returning to Corfu. The access road to Kanoni passes through the capital of Kerkyra where you will need to drive through one-way-streets, so it is useful to get a good map or ask the locals.
Kanoni beaches
Further from the busy tourist attractions, you will find several pebbly beaches where you can indulge yourself in holiday relaxation. Yet there are also bars and restaurants where you can enjoy tasty drinks and dishes. If you want to visit some cultural events, there is nothing easier than to go to the nearby island capital of Kerkyra - those of you who are physically fit can go there by walking (the way will take you between 30 and 60 minutes). On the little peninsula, you can put up for the night in some of the local hotels and enjoy the amazing views on the landscape. Most of the accommodation facilities also organize their own cultural events.
