Sidari
Sidari Resort
The Sidari resort is one of the three popular tourist centres on the north coast of Corfu. It lies in a picturesque bay, surrounded by green hills and gold-and-white rocks forming a romantic scenery.
Sidari is a very lively resort abounding in bars, cafés, restaurants, music clubs and tavernas open till early morning hours. From the two original fishing villages, it has developed into a busy tourist resort, tempting visitors from all over the world. For the lovers of sports, there are sports bars with live broadcast of sports matches on large flat screens, but they will be especially delighted by the countless number of different water activites, including diving, water skiing, riding a motor boat, and many more, less traditional sports.
Sidari beaches
In Sidari, there are three beaches altogether, all of them covered with sand. Unlike the main town beach, the one located nearby in the east is much more peaceful. The water there is shallow, and so suitable also for children and less experienced swimmers. During the day, you can rent there an umbrella and a deckchair enjoying your sunny holiday, and during the night set off for a romantic walk at the sunset. Those who like good drinks and nice atmosphere can visit some of the many bars, whether in the centre or at the beach to satisfy their taste buds with the local specialities and mixed drinks, but also to relax in the pool in the bar. The beaches in Sidari are fully equipped, including showers.
What to do in Sidari?
You can visit the town centre also to go shopping and buy souvenirs for your friends and family. You can choose from many souvenir shops, yet wou will also find there jewellery and bijouterie. There are supermarkets, fashion shops, ATMs, pharmacies, and much more. In case of need, there is a medical centre open 24/7. You can park your car near the beach; and the whole area is very flat, therefore easily accessible even for the disabled.
If you travel with children, take them for a horse ride to the small jockey club. On the beaches, you will find bouncy castles.
The most attractive natural place of interest can be found in the west of the island - there are sandstone rock formations protruding from the sea, being washed away by sea water incessantly, and thus forming unique sand bays and caves. The couples in love will certainly want to hear the legend about the local Channel of Love (Canal d’Amour), which is the most famous of the formations created by erosion. According to the legend, the woman who swims through the channel, will win the heart of her beloved one; another interpretation is that the couple in love that swims through the channel will conceive within a year.
About a 10 minutes drive from Sidari, you will find the resort Roda which is worth seeing. Those who like walking can visit the typical Greek villages in the surroundings that seem to be untouched by tourism, like Peroulades, for example. From Sidari, you can go on a boat trip to the surrounding islands like Paxos or Erikoussa. Or you can make an all-day trip to the Corfu capital of Kerkyra with many historical sites and a beautiful view on the sea. On your way, you can stop in some of the picturesque towns on the coast (e.g. Kassiopi, Nissaki and others). Or you can even take a bus to Albania.
