Glyfada
Glyfada Resort
The Glyfada resort is located on the west coast of Corfu, being one of the most popular resorts on the island mainly for its long sandy beach and perfect conditions for bathing and relaxation. The surrounding nature with its steep rocks, olive groves and turquoise sea is particularly charming and it completes the atmosphere of a place for spending a calm and undisturbed holiday. In the resort, you can stay both in huge hotels and small family pensions, many of them very close to the beach. In the shops you will find everything you might need including groceries or gifts.
Glyfada beaches
The beach is Glyfada is a purely sandy one, with the reflection of the sun´s rays changing its colour into goldish. The entry into the sea is very gentle and so, it is ideal also for non swimmers and small children. Yet in some of the places further from the coast, you need to be careful about the undercurrents, typical for the west coast. Otherwise the beach is quite safe, also as it lies far from the main roads. The water there is crystal clear, bordered by rocks, and the beach is watched over by lifeguards.
Along the beach, you will obviously find restaurants with refreshment, and, since the beach is frequently visited, it provides all the necessary comfort, including umbrellas, deckchairs, toilets, showers and changing cubicles. Those who prefer to spend their holiday actively won´t be disappointed either, as there is wide choice of water sports including diving, water skiing, windsurfing or driving a motor boat. Those of a more adventurous nature can try jumping in to the water from the surrounding rocks. On dry land, you can also play beach volleyball, and about 5 km from the resort, you will find a famous golf club, offering the comfort of its restaurant and a shop with golf equipment, together with the bright green sceneries. Glyfada is also suitable for hiking - the local almost untouched nature is hiding many paths between the rocks and forests that will take you to unexpected places.
What to do in Glyfada?
Despite being a tourist paradise, Glyfada is also hiding the characteristic Greek atmosphere which you can experience especially in the tavernas where you will be attended by nice restaurant staff offering you delicious Greek specialities. Those who like to go out at night will find there several places where to have fun after sunset. Glyfada is not really a party resort but you won´t get bored there either.
The resort is located about 15 km west of the Corfu capital of Kerkyra where you can go for a trip. In Kerkyra there is really a lot to sse, including historic sites, many restaurants, bars and tavernas, but you can also experience there various cultural events and festivals. There is also a water park nearby. Those who prefer to go on short trips can climb above the city to the village of Pelekas with the Kaiser´s Throne lookout built by a German emperor which has an in-built telescope. Another interesting place to visit is the monastery in the Miriotissa bay.
