Agios Ioannis Melitieon
Agios Ioannis Melitieon Resort
Besides many other places, the rich green south-east coast of Corfu is also hiding the resort called Agios Ioannis Melitieon, located about 16 km from the island capital of Kerkyra. On the sunny beach and in the warm sea or a swimming pool, you will be able to enjoy the perfect summer relaxation with your friends or family. You will find there all the necessary peace but also enough entertainment to recharge your batteries. The green hills and sky-blue sea form a perfect background of the idyll.
Beach in Agios Ioannis Melitieon
The beach there is rather small, yet it provides everything you might need, including tavernas and bars with refreshment and ice-cold drinks. The water there is clean and crystal clear.
Obviously the resort also has souvenir shops so that you could bring some gift to your friends or family.
What to do in Agios Ioannis Melitieon
Those who prefer to spend their holiday actively will appreciate the possibility to rent a bicycle in the resort, and set off to the surroundings. Many hotels allow their guests to use their sports equipment, including tennis or squash courts, swimming pools, mini golf courses, etc. Some also offer programme for children. Yet the place can also be enjoyed by the adults as there are many concerts or discos taking place, too.
Agios Ioannis Melitieon is not really the liveliest resort, yet thanks to its location, it can satisfy all the wishes of its visitors (who can visit some of the surrounding resorts where they will find everything else they might need). Therefore Agios Ioannis Melitieon can serve you as an ideal point of departure, an oasis of peace where you can enjoy nice relaxation, and when you feel like having some fun, you can always set off to the surroundings. Since Agios Ioannis Melitieon lies between other two famous resorts - Benitses a Moraitika - your first steps will probably lead to these two places; or you can also use a rented car or a bicycle. In Benitses, the place worth seeing is especially the Shell Museum where you can see, besides the unique shells of sea animals, also other undersea fauna like stuffed fish or sea urchins. In Benitses there are also restaurants and cafés, those with fish specialities being especially recommendable. Nearby you can also find the Mouse Island which is not an island but a petrified ship - which is what the site actually resembles and it is one of the most visited places on the island. The second one is the Achillion Palace, the famous summer residence of the Austrian empress Sissi who let it build in the 19th century and named it after the ancient god Achilles. And if all that is still not enough for, you can visit the capital of Korfu/Kerkyra where you will discover more mysterious beauties of the island. There are many secluded places with old houses and tavernas but on the other hand also modern casinos and discos - the city simply has something for everyone.
