Massouri
Massouri Resort
With the town of Myrties, the lively and developed tourist resort of Massouri on the west of Kalymnos Island is a perfect place for those holiday-makers who like peace, relaxation and Greek romanticism. You will find there hotels and other options of accommodation, and also many restaurants, bars and night spots.
What to do in Massouri?
The local coast is washed by the blue waters of the Aegean Sea, why the background is formed by huge rocks, slopes covered with pine trees, and snow-white houses. Such a view can be savoured the best from one of the local tavernas, with great food and drinks and the spirit of Greek traditions and hospitability. The two beverages especially worth recommending are the alcoholic drink of ouzo, and delicious coffee.
Those of a romantic nature will be delighted by the red sunlit coast during the sunset, or the walks through the crooked streets and paths towards the island interior. You can also walk to the nearby town of Myrties. You can also make a trip to the Cave of the Seven Virgins, wrapped in many legends, which can be quite a mystical experience. Another place you definitely shouldn’t miss is the nearby litle island of Telendos that once belonge to Kalymnos but was separated after a vocanic eruption hundreds of years ago. You can get there by boat, just like to another island in the vicinity, Leros. Those who prefer other than water sports can try the local rock routes and mountain climbs.
Massouri beach
The beach in Massouri is very nice; with sand and some pebbles, warmed through with the Greek sun, therefore perfect for idling and beach games. Obviously you can also practice there water sports, especially diving which has a long tradition on the island where a divers’ festival is held every year.
