Pothia Resorts
Pothia is the Kalymnos capital and it belongs to the busiest and the most interesting places on its territory. At the same time, it serves as a port and an island junction where tourists are concentrated and then taken to other resorts on the island.
What to do in Pothia?
Despite originally being only a fisher village, Pothia has developed into an important centre of the island, all that preserving its traditions and charming atmosphere. Its surroundings is fringed by steep rocks and plenty of small houses scattered on the coast. Those are forming little streets, hiding many corners and historical sites. You will also find there an Archaeological Museum giving evidence of the rich island history with is varied exhibition, Foklore Museum or a Naval Museum with the artefacts commemorating the tradition of picking sea sponges. The few small churches and a monastery (which you can enter only being properly dressed, with your clothes covering most of our body), show the religious customs of the locals.
And like in every capital, in Pothia you will find lots of nice tavernas, restaurants, bars and cafés tempting the passers-by for a sit-wod over a glass of ouzo and Greek specialities. Those of a romantic nature will certainly like to go for a walk through the adorable streets and buy some souvenir in some of the local shops. If you want to experience something nontraditional or even peculiar, you can visit the local factory for sea sponges processing.
