Agios Nikolaos village

The little and calm fishing port of Agios Nikolaos is located on the west coast under the village of Spoa and it can be accessed after a 6 km steep hairpin path The place got its name after a church in the southern tip of the bay. Under the church, there is a pebbly beach with tavernas in its central part. You will also find there umbrellas and deckchairs. In the northern part of the bay, you will find softer pebbles and weird rock formations. Although the beach can be empty, bathing naked is prohibited there. For those who love remote beaches, the locals offer a sailing on their boats to the surrounding beaches that can´t be accessed from dry land.

Places of interest:

• remains of an ancient settlement on the Marathos peninsula, a promontory in the north of the Agios Nikolaos bay. This is where the early Christian basilica of Panagia Eftapatoussa with seven gates used to stand. On its foundations, a little church was built in 2002. In its walls, reliefs and pieces of mosaics found in the original basilica were embedded. There is a nice view on the village from the place.
