Mesochori
Mesochori village
One of the most beautiful villages on Karpathos, Mesochori, with its houses lying in a cascade surrounded by greenery, can be found in the west of the island. This peaceful palce can offer magnificent views, especially at the sunset. Until 1960, there was no road leading to the village. The current one between Lefkos and Mesochori passes through a kind of a moonscape as in 2004, vast surfaces of dense pine forests were destroyed by fire. If you arrive at Mescohori by car, you will need to park it in a small car park above the village and continue through the narrow streets and countless stairs on foot.
In the upper part of the village, you will find a big church of Panagia i Vrisiani with an abundant underground spring, and the popular taverna of Dramountana. The bottom part of the village is dominated by Platia Skopi - a huge terrace with four little churches.
Places of interest:
- little church of Agia Sofia located north of Mesochori. There is a path leading to it from the Church of Panagia along the local cemetery. From the church, there are beautiful views both on Mesochori and the west cast with the Agia Irini bay.
- the Skopi café with original decoration on the little square in the bottom part of the village is tempting its visitors with a magnificent view on the sea and a nice sit-down at the sunset.
