Mastichari
Mastichari Resort
The family resort of Mastichari, located about 20 km from the island capital, is located on the north-west sandy coast. The resort resembles an exotic landscape, and, together with the romantic scenery of the port town with a fishing tradition, it creates a unique atmosphere, perfect for spending a holiday with your family or in a couple. Mastichari offers peace and undisturbed relaxation in the glare of the Greek sun. There are accommodation facilities for all budgets, including hotels and private rooms. The restaurants there serve traditional dishes made of freshly caught fish, seafood, and chicken and lamb meat, and also wine and ouzo. People there eat slowly enjoying every bite.
Mastichari beaches
The main attraction of the resort is the local beach which is covered with fine white sand and slopes gently into the deep sea, and so the coast is safe both for small children and less experienced swimmers. The water there is crystal clear and beautifully blue. Nonetheless, you need to be wary of big waves that might appear from time to time, yet those will delight surfers and those who like yachting and other ´windy´ sports.
What to do in Mastichari
In Mastichari there are not many possibilities to go shopping - you will only find there a few souvenir shops and supermarkets with foodstuffs and basic articles. For a bigger choice, you need to go to the capital where you can get by a local bus passing regularly. The nighlife in the resort is located mainly to the tavernas where people sit over tasty drinks and dishes, and then go for a walk to the port or surroundings. Some of the big hotels have their own, more lively programme, and, if you are lucky, you will happen to be there for the annual wine festival celebrations including wine tasting, music and dance. Yet if you visit the resort in other time of the year or the local offer of services doesn´t satisfy you, set off to the capital with a countless number of night activities. With its rather lowland landscape, the resort surroundings are also suitable for undemanding hiking and cycling tours. You can go to see the surroundig villages almost untouched by tourism. If you want to go somwhere over the sea, you can visit some of the nearby islands where you can get with some of the regular boats.
