Kazaviti
Kazaviti village
From the Prinos Resort, there is a path leading to the two most beautiful villages on the island - Megalo Kazavity (Megalos Prinos) and Mikro Kazavity (Mikros Prinos). The villages were built one opposite each other on the wooded slopes of two hills, with the houses hidden among the dense vegetation.
In Mikro Kazavity, you will find the old Church of Aghios Georgios with a slate roof, a little wall along the courtyard from 1815, and an amazing view up to the sea.
Through a small gorge with water prings, you will get to Megalo Kazavity. Its old houses have their roofs covered with slate, they are spacious, with huge balconies and thin chimneys. There is a small square with old plane strees with a few tavernas under the shade. With one of the narrow streets, you will arrive at the old little Church of the Twelve Apostles from the 19th century, hiding a painted pulpit and a wood-carved ceiling. There is also a tall bell tower with an old wooden staircase, and the chapel of Zoodochu Pigis. Right next to the church, remains of the original school building from the 19th century have been preserved. When passing through the rising streets among the dense vegetation of walnut trees, you will notice several fountains from which the locals took water. In the yards of the old houses, you can see classical ovens as well as abandonded olive oil mills. Visit some of the local tavernas to try the tasty bean stews prepared in three different ways, or roasted mutton meat, fried pork, seasoned with red spicy pepper.
