Pantokrator: The highest peak of Corfu

When travelling from the capital of Kerkyra on the northern town exit, you will be passing through the towns of Kontokáli and Gouviá, passing one into another. They lie close to a bay looking more like a lake and you can still see there the remains of an old ship yard from 1778. Today there is a modern marina opposite the resort, with plenty of beautiful yachts, Another place worth stopping on your way is the Koméno Cape with a tiny picturesque Church of Ipapándi.

From the Koméno Cape, go back to the main road that will take you will through the town of Dafníla. There are several very good hotels. After the town, you will be passing through the popular resort of Dasiá on a wide and comfortable road along the sea. This resort passes into the town of Ípsos and into Pirgi. When you drive a bit higher above the little towns, you will notice that the beaches of the three resorts are in fact connected into one long beautiful pebbly beach, looking totally different than those small and indented beaches that can be found on the island. They are called the Golden Mile Beach because of endless crowds of young people, especially from the UK, who feel attracted by the tumult of the local bars and discos. When turning off to the signposted way right after Pirgi, a series of zigzag bends will take you to the calm village of Ágios Márkos, famous for its splendid view on the coastal landscape - you will be surprised by the view of the Ipsos bay. Then the road climbs up to the village of Áno Korikiána, ending in Sokráti and Zígos. Then you need to follow the signposts to the Mount Pantokrator (906 m). The very demanding ascent is truly panoramic - on the peak, you will be rewarded by an unforgettable view of the whole sickle-shaped coast of Corfu, and Albania.
