Molivos
Molivos Resort
Molivos, one of the most popular tourist resorts on Lesbos, is located on the north coast. With its effort to preserve its original character, it belongs to very precious locations from the historical point of view, and at the same time the most romantic ones. Ancient narrow streets, a medieveal byzantine castle with a fortification from the 14th century are rising proudly above the port, together with the little houses with red roofs built in a cascade on a slope - all that is the beautiful town of Molivos. It is no wonder then that it has been put on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Molivos beaches
The local beaches, although not being the very best on the island, are completely sufficient for bathing and pracitcing water sports like diving and snorkelling, water skiing or windsurfing. Their surface is mostly covered with pebbles. Sometimes you can bump there into sea animals like sea urchins, and so, it is recommendable to bring water shoes. If you have children, you should better think of another location, or visit the nearby sandy beach with a stretch of shallow water although it is usually quite full during the summer months. In some of the remote places, you acn also go fishing.
What to do in Molivos
NIghtlife in Molivos is rather calm, so, don´t expect huge beach parties or discos with loud music and crowds of teenagers. But you can still find there night venues, mainly bars and tavermas open till late at night and offering live music and dance. Those of a romantic nature will be delighted by a walk through the maze of the stone-paved streets of the town. On your way, you can visit some of the little shops and buy some souvenir or a gift for your friends and family.
You should definitely try the delicious Greek cuisine in the local tavernas and restaurants. The locals have a liking for fish and seafood but they won´t say no to lamb or chicken meat either. To drink, try the local wine or the traditional Greek beverage, ouzo. Otherwise you will also find there restaurants offering continental cuisine.
