Petra
Petra Resort
The popular recreational resort of Petra is located on the north coast of Lesbos about 50 km from the capital of Mytilene. The town centre, despite being modern, still preserves its historical character, and so, it is perfect for walks at any time of the day. When you climb on the hill above the town, you will be rewarded by a view not only on the landscape that will open up in front of you but also the view on a charming little church open daily. On your descent back to the streets, you can go shopping or for a nice dinner at the sunset. In the evening, you can set off to the centre of the night bustle, concentrated around some of the local night venues with both live and recorded music and dance.
Petra beach
The local beach can boast the Blue Flag, i.e. the EU award for top quality and perfect cleanliness. Its surface is covered with a wide stretch of fine grey and goldish sand, sloping gently into the sea depths and therefore being suitable even for small children and less experienced swimmers. For the comfort of holidaymakers, you will find there umbrellas and deckchairs, changing cubicles, showers, and enough refreshment in restaurants and beach bars. The beach surroundings are full of hills and low green vegetation.
What to do in Petra
The place has a high level of services including a bank, post office, car, motorbike and icycle rental services, public transport, police station, and plenty of shops.
You shouldn´t really leave Petra before you try a bit of ouzo from the local manufacture with a more than hundred year old tradition. Also you should taste traditional Greek dishes like cheese, fine olive oil, or fruit and vegetables from the local farmers.
