Pythagorion Resort
The popular resort of Pythagorion, the place where the illustrious mathematician and philosopher was born, can be found in the south of Samos. The ancient town centre with its crooked narrow streets is truly romantic. The beautiful Pyhtagoras´ town with green hills in the background is a quite lively port at the same time, and so, there are enough opportunities to observe the seaside bustle, walks and fun. It is for its versatility that the resort is ranked among the most popular ones on the island and is suitable for all.
Pythagorion beach
Despite being small, the town beach covered with sand and pebbles provides enough comfort to all fans of sunbathing and safe swimming in the clean sea water. You can rent an umbrella or a deckchair there and relax without being disturbed. Moreover, there are many other beaches in the surroundings to choose from. On many of them you can try or learn some of the water sports.
What to do in Pythagorion?
Pythagorion can´t really complain about lack of catering facilities - there are plenty of tavernas, restaurants, cafés, bars and clubs. If you go for a dinner, choose a traditional tavernas offering seafood. Yet there are places preparing international cuisine and fastfood restaurants, too. Wine lovers will be delighted by the local beverage of a delicious taste. During the night, there will be traditional Greek live music in some places, and there are a few discos in the town; but you don´t need to worry as it is not dificult to find a nice and calm place to relax.
The town also has a children´s playground for the smallest ones.
On your walks through the town, you will encounter shops where you can buy gifts and souvenirs, drinks and foodstuffs. If the choice is not wide enough, visit the nearby island capital.
Pythagorion surroundings
With its rich history, the island of Samos offers plenty of interesting places, and Pythagorion is not an exception. Except for the original capital on which the curent municipality was built, there is an ancient aqueduct which is really impressive, or parts of Byzantine constructions and ancient archaeological finds. The admission to the archaeological finds of the gymnasium and thermal baths is free. Above the town, the Temple of Artemis used to stand, of which the remains are still visible. If you want to travel outside the town, visit the nearby islands or go to Turkey.
