The capital of Samos
The capital and at the same time the largest port of the Greek island of Samos can be found on the north-east coast. It consists of an old, historical part of Vathy and a new, modern part of Samos. The traditional houses are scattered on the hills along the beautiful bay, while the sky-blue sea washes the coast relentlessly. It is no wonder then that the influx of tourists in this adorable town is every time bigger and bigger. Despite that, Vathy doesn´t adapt to tourism more than necessary, trying to preserve its long-time traditions. A walk through the charming streets of Samos full of flowers and heady scents, the port, little squares or along the coast will certainly be an unforgettable experience.
Samos beach
The only beach of Samos is a pebble one with turquoise water and all the comfort you nned. If you want to enjoy a bit of romanticism and more privacy, then set off to explore the surroundings, hiding more bays, secluded places and beaches waiting only for you. On the other hand, there are also beaches like Psili Ammos, for example, that have all the background a offer a variety of water sports in case you are searching more comfort and a wider choice of services.
What to do in Samos
Since Vathy / Samos is the main administrative, cultural and trade centre of the island, you will find there all the developed services - banks, accommodation, public transport, museums, markets, boutiques, pharmacies, souvenir shops and shops with local handmade products or jewelleries. On your walk through the town, visit the archaeological museum where you can see a truly unique, more than five metres high temple statue. You can also visit the town gallery or other museums and historical sites. On the Pythagoras Square with the statue of a lion in the middle, there are plenty of cafés, restaurants and tavernas perfect for a nice sit-down and watching the bustle over a glass of the local sweet wine and some tasty dish.
Samos surroundings
The Samos capital is a perfect point of departure to get to know the island. The green hills in the interior are perfect for hiking. On your long walks, you can visit the nearby villages of Kamara or Agia Paraskevi where you can refresh yourself in stylish tavernas.
Samos nightlife
During the night, Samos becomes even more lively with plenty of discos and clubs, serving drinks and blasting away till the dawn. Those are tempting especially the young visitors. The visitors who have a diffrent idea about spending a perfect holiday have plenty of other options how to use the time after the sunset - they can go for a romantic walk through the town or on the beach, or sit down in some of the nice cafés along the coast.
