Pigadia is a modern capital and port of Karpathos, sometimes also called by the name of the island itself, so you can see both names being used. The white houses built along the bay and in the hill create a unique atmosphere, and so, it is no wonder that the local landscape often serves as a source of inspiration for photographers.
What to do in Pigadia?
With its 2.5 thousand inhabitants, Pigadia is an administrative, trade and cultural centre of the region with all the servies you might need. You will find there a variety of catering facilities including classical tavernas and restaurants in adorable narrow streets, or you can buy foodstuffs in some of the local supermarkets or snall shops. The nightclubs offering entertainment to all late sleepers as they are open till the morning, Sometimes they can become quite noisy, especially during the high season.
Pigadia beaches
In the very bay where Pigadia is located, you will find a nice sandy beach. In general, the capital surroundings abound in bays and secluded places, so you can discover your own, almost private beach to (sun)bathe and swim in the sea. You can also rent a car or a motorbike that will take you to all the charming places really fast. One place worth visiting is definitely the not so remote but beautiful beach of Kyra Panagia. It is dominated by a monastery of the same name, painting a fascinating mosaic in the background together with goldish sand and deep blue sea. Since Pigadia is a port, you can also use boat transport to make trips both to the open sea and along the coast.
