Diafani Resort

Diafani is a small port town with an everyday boat connection to the island capital. The tarmac road connects Diafani with Olympos in the mountainous island interior, and further to the south, there is an 18 km long dusty road (this was the case in 2009) to the village of Spoa from where it is followed by tarmac road. Pigadia is located 67 km far away.

Diafani has been spared the influx of tourists so far, who usually stop there only for a while when going on a one-day trip from Pigadia, with the main target being the village of Olympos. In Difani there is a small tourist office offering not only accommodation but also trips to the nearby beaches, the Tristomo bay and the little island of Saria in the high season. The coast is lined by several tavernas, and in the adjacent streets, the locals offer accommodation in suites or small family hotels. There are also little shops and minimarkets (in one of them you can even buy petrol).

The beach in Diafani is not really nice for bathing; it is much better to go to the much more attractive pebbly beach of Vananda in the north where you can get by walking in about 30 minutes, or by car on a dusty road. South of Difani, you will find a few more beaches, some of them accessible on foot or by car, others only by boat.

Diafani is also a point of departure for hiking tours - to the northermost settlement of Avlona, the Tristomo bay along the east coast, or the village of Olympos.

Diafani places of interest

• Zoodochou Pigi church with with rich fresco ornamentation made according to a model from the 13th century. The church was built about 40 years ago according to the former Byzantine church destroyed by an earthquake.
• Neptune´s fountain on the coast with its peak decorated by a dolphin made of four stones from Vourkounda. In the bottom part, there are  ornamental tiles representing everyday life of Diafani and Olympos inhabitants.
