Kipourion Resort

Kipourion is a name both of the region and the picturesque monastery after which it was named. The monastery itself as the regional landmark is one of the most charming ones on Cephalonia. It is hidden in the lee of a green rock amidst a flood of trees, low bushes and grass. Built in the 18th century, it is relatively young but has a bleak history: it was seriously damaged several times, but always restored. In its interior, you can see rare icons and paintings, while outside, it has an adorable bell tower. If you are lucky and happen to be there on some of the religious feast days, you can experience a Greek celebration of important saints.

The mystical mountain plateau on which the monks´ sanctuary is located, can be found on the island of Paliki in the south-west along the beautiful blue coast. Its surroundings are filled with rocks covered with a tangle of low woody plants rising from the coast to the height. The nature there is almost virgin and untouched - Kipourion is a little paradise on earth.

The nearby beach, located within only a few minutes walking distance from the monastery, is formed by light soft pebbles. The water there is crystal clear and sky-blue, with pine and olive trees in the surroundings providing shade.

What to do in Kipourion?

You can stay (and eat well) in the villages of Havdata and Kaminarata. They both can offer accommodation in private villas as well as a few tavernas and restaurants. You will also find there shops where you can buy everything you need including foodstuffs and other basic articles. If you need other services like medical care or a bank, visit the bigger town of Paliki, also called Lixouri. And if that still doesn´t satisfy you, visit the island capital of Argostoli where you will find all the comfort and quality services.
