Skala
Skala Resort
Skala is a legendary place where every visitor of Cephalonia should go (if they aren´t spending there their holiday alerady), since the local sandy beach is one of the longest on the island. Without any doubt, the Skala beach is on the list of the very best ones. It is located in the southernmost point of the island about 40 km from the capital of Argostoli.
Skala beaches
The main asset of the Skala resort is its several kilometres long regularly maintained sandy beach with an admixture of soft pebbles and perfectly clean deep blue and turquoise water, awarded the EU Blue Flag for top quality. Except for bathing, the crystal clear sea is perfect for diving and snorkelling. Skala is adorned by a stretch of pine forests which, together with the goldish sand and sky-blue sea, ranks the resort among the best on the island and maybe even in the whole Greece. It is no wonder than that the place is visited by many tourists who can enjoy all the comfort including umbrellas and deckchairs, showers, and the always nice staff in the nearby tavernas and bars. Those of a more adventurous nature and the lovers of adrenaline will certainly want to try some of the water sports being offered. In the vicinity, you can also find a few swimming pools, little shops, attractions for children, an exchange bureau, and more services.
Near Skala, there are more nice beaches you can visit. One of the popular ones is e.g. Kaminia which is known as the place where green sea turtles lay their eggs. This beach is suitable especially for families with children as the water there is shallow, the seabed has a sandy surface and the entry into the sea is very gentle, too. Yet there are more remote beaches nearby where you can enjoy more privacy (it this is what you are searching for).
What to do in Skala?
When you climb the hill above the beach towards the interior, you will arrive at the original village of Skala with a square with a fountain in its centre. While some of the buildings survived the earthquake in the 1950s, others had to be completely rebuilt. You can sit there and relax, soaking up the atmosphere of a genuine Greek village. In the evening, you can go tou to have some fun in some of the many bars and clubs.
