Kriopigi

The Kriopigi resort, with its name meaning a ‘cold spring’ that actually flows out in the place, is located on the Chalkidiki peninsula on the east coast of its middle promontory of Kassandra, about 50 km from the capital of Polygyros. From the coast of the resort, you can see up to the neighbouring peninsula of Sithonia, the middle of the three fingers forming the main landmark of this picturesque Greek territory.

Kriopigi beaches

The fine sandy beaches that have been awarded the EU Blue Flag for top quality, are the main tourist draw and will be appreciated especially by families with children as the water is warm, the entry into the sea very gentle, and the waves mild, so the beaches are also suitable for the smallest ones and the less experiences swimmers. Yet it is not exceptional to see there couples searching for romanticism, peace and relaxation. Besides the main beaches, they can find some more secluded place in some of the bays and enjoy complete privacy. If you prefer to spend your holiday more actively though, you don’t need to be afraid to get bored in Kriopigi, as the resorts can offer a variety of water sports, or you can set off for a trip to other beaches nearby. After you perk yourself up, you might need some rest, and so you can rent an umbrellas and a deckchair in the shade on the coast.

What to do in Kriopigi

In Kropigi there are not many possibilities to go shopping, yet you can get there everything you need; especially groceries, hygienic articles, and of course souvenirs. You will also find there basic medical care and limited banking services. As for accomodation, you can stay in some of the bigger hotels, private villas, or a campsite. Nightlife in Kriopigi is not really wild, but you can go there for night walks on the beach and in the town. Also the bars and tavernas are open till late at night, so you can sit over a drink or some bit to eat. If you want to listen to loud music and dance all night long, visit the nearby resort of Kallithea about 5 km away.

One of the things the Kriopigi resort stands out for is the green nature and the beautiful view from the old part of the town. In fact the town itself is also a place worth seeing, especially for its maze of streets and charming houses with red roofs. After a nice walk, visit some of the tavernas to try something of the local or international cuisine, and the local wine. And once you grow tired of the resort, set off for a trip on Chalkidiki to see for example the unique monasteries on Mount Athos, the archaeological site of Olynthos, or the dripstone cave of Petralona with the remains of the ancient ancestors. You can also try fishing or set out for a trip to discover the Greek gods.
