Agia Efimia
Agia Efimia Resort
The Agia Efimia resort, a traditional fishing village and a very lively charming port, being a paradise for divers, yachtsmen, fishermen and common holidaymakers, is located in the rocky north-eastern part of Cephalonia about 30 km from the capital of Argostoli. The resort was named after a church becoming the centre of a festival with dance and traditional Greek music in summer.
Agia Efimia beaches
Agia Efimia is not primarily a resort intended for beach tourism. But still there are coast bays with pebbles on their surface where bathing is possible. Nonetheless, if you are longing for a typical holiday beach, the famous beach of Myrtos, awarded the EU Blue Flag for top quality and said to be one of the most beautiful on the island, is located only a few kilometres away. There are more beaches in the surroundings but usually accessible only by boat.
What to do in Agia Efimia?
The village that was completely rebuilt after a devastating earthquake in the 1950s is a charming place to go on walks through the paved streets. There are only a few houses as a reminder of the disaster that hit the place. Today there are no signs of an earthquake though, the village is clean and the flood of flowers and ornamental plants will literally enthrall you. In the port, you can sit over a glass of something tasty or a delicious dish, relishing the lively atmosphere of the port. The locals are especially nice with the visitors and they will certainly make your stay enjoyable. You should definitely visit some of the local tavernas, restaurants or cafés, and taste some of the local products. If you prefer self-catering, there are supermarkets and little shops. The village also has a post office and bank.
Agia Efimia is also a perfect point of departure to make trips on Cephalonia and outside the island. You can visit some of the old villages in the island interior, or archaeological sites. The very nearby island of Ithaka, located only a few kilometres away by sea, almost suggests itslelf. A trip to this island will take you the whole day.
