Kolymbari
Kolymbari Resort
Kolymbari is a holiday resort still unaffected by mass tourism where no large hotel complexes have been built. The resort is in fact a small number of pensions, tavernas and small shops scattered on several dozens of metres of a long and plain beach, bordered by a port for small fishing boats.
Kolymbari beach
The beach in Kolymbari is a pebble and sand one. It is maintained artificially as more sand is continuously being added there.
What to do in Kolymbari
Those who don´t really enjoy lying on public beaches and prefer spending their holidays in privacy can walk around the port, as they will discover a calm rocky coast behind it, with many small bays and pools offering peace and relaxation.
As it has already been said, in the Kolymbari resort there are several tavernas, entertainment venues and shops, yet if you want to experience real tourism or an interesting nightlife, you will have to set off to some of the surrounding resorts. One of the very busy resorts, rich in terms of social life, is e.g. Platanias which is located about 15-20 minutes far away by bus. Whether you are staying in the Kolymbari resort or you are just visiting the town, you should definitely not miss the visit of the significant monastery of Moni Odigitrias - Gonias
Kolymbari surroundings
The Kolymbari resort is also a good point of departure to get to know the whole western part of the island. Such beautiful places like Chania and the famous beaches of Falasarna, Elafonisi or Balos, and the largest European canyon, the Samaria Gorge, are located very close to the resort, being very well accessible both by car and the local buses (the bus stop can be found right in the resort).
Kolymbari location
The Kolymbari resort is located on the north coast about 25 km west of Chania, in the place where the southern part of the Rodopou Peninsula starts. Kolymbari is located close to the main road connecting the towns of Chania and Kissamos. Those places are very well accessible both by car and public buses - there is a frequent bus connection between Kolymbari and the tourist complex of Platanias/Agia Marina and the town of Chania.
