Stalos
Stalos Resort
The Stalos resort is one fo the three resorts forming the largest tourist complex of west Crete. Like the resorts of Agia Marina and Platanias, it can offer everything the lovers of the sea and fun can imagine. A beautiful long beach with fine sand, rich nightlife and shops of all kinds - you can find all that in this very resort.
What to do in Stalos
Despite being very busy and covered with modern housing development, you can still find there a bit of peace and traditional Cretan atmosphere - about 1.5 km from the resort towards the interior, you will find the original village of Pano Stalos offering peace and relaxation, and with its relatively low height also a beautiful view on the whole coastal area.
Pros and cons of the resort
Like Agia Marina or Platanias, Stalos can be recommended for several reasons:
- The long beach with soft sand and a gentle entry into the water is perfect for subathing and fun even for families with children or people with disabilities
- With its location, Stalos is a good point of departure to go on trips visiiting both historical sites and natural places of interest, including many villages in the interior with original Cretan atmosphere, the beautiful town of Chania, the beaches of Gramvousa, Flasarna or Elafonisos, the White Mountains or the Samaria Gorge.
- Both the coast and the surroundings of the resorts are quite plain, yet the narby mountain peaks and hilly landscape offer a beautiful scenery - about 15 km south, you will find mountains with more than 2 000 m high peaks.
One of the downsides of the Stalos resort is the main road passing through its very centre. Yet if you are not thinking of going on longer hiking trips in the surroundings, this shouldn´t really bother you. On the contrary, if you want to go from Stalos to Chania for example, located only a few minutes far away, or you will use Stalos as your point of departure for road trips, then you will certainly appreciate the transport accessibility of the resort.
Stalos location
The Stalos resort is located on the north coast of Crete approx. 8 km west of Chania. It can be found on the main road connecting the towns of Chania and Kissamos/Kasteli. If you are travelling by bus, there is a bus stop right on a small square in the very centre of the resort.
