What to do in Elounda
The whole area surrounding Elounda is formed by one large lagoon situated between the coast and a huge, 5300 m long and between 500 m to 2 km wide promontory. The Elounda lagoon, i. e. the distance from the resort to the promontory, is about 1 500 m wide In the past, the promontory was connected to the mainland - in the 19th century, a water channel was dug out between the promontory and the mainland, and today the connection is ensured by a narrow bridge.
