Fodele Resort

The Fodele village/resort is calm and peaceful. It is a place surrounded by green vegetation, interesting for several reasons. Those who like nature and natural places of interest will be certainly delighted by the most famous orange tree grove on the island. In the surroundings of the resort, the deep green orange trees are grown on an area of more than 300 hectares. Another interesting thing in Fodele for the lovers of nature is the Pantomantris rivulet, with its banks providing shelter for hundred of plant and animal species.

What to do in Fodele?

Yet Fodele will also please the lovers of history: in 1541, the famous painter Domenikos Theotokopoulos, called El Greco, was born in the very village of Fodele. On the town square under a more than one hundred years old tree, you will find his monument, and a bit far from the village, there is a house where the illustrious painter was born and grew up, including his bust. The whole area is called Arhontiko, and, beside El Greco´s birthplace, you will also find there a small Byzantine church - the Church of Panagia.

And, on the top of all that, from Fodele you can go for a walk to the Moni Pandeleimen Monastery. The about 5 km long path goes from Fodele along the Pantomantris rivulet, with its banks covered with trees and bushes provide enough shade and nice surroundings to the hikers.

Fodele beaches

There are two beaches near the Fodele village. The first one is located in the western direction, it can only be accessed from the village, and is completely unequipped. The second one can be found close to the road connecting Heraklion and Rethymno and offers all the facilities of a public beach.
